...I agree...and the character HAS seen growth. I was rather disappointed with the Season 8 direction that had Scully LEANING so much on JD. I know that it was designed to a) cover for less Mulder, b) give JD a rousing hero's welcome and make us all love him for protecting our "delicate and abandoned" girl and c) ineptly explain the changes that take place in a character when she is pregnant and alone.
But I really thought that Scully should have been portrayed less as a victim and more as a central character in Season Eight...and while I do agree that she is coming across as strong in the tiny part of Season Nine that I've seen...she is as you noted KM, a little too Hollywood...and hence less believable and less likely to have the common woman relate to her situation(which is outlandish enough to be forcing the suspension of belief without the plunging necklines, pouty lips and flawless hair) and before someone goes all Erin Brockovich on me...I really don't have anything against a woman dressing provocatively...that's personal choice...but there is a lot more to selling yourself than how you dress and GA can't do a blessed thing about how Scully is written(heck maybe she has no control over the costuming either so this is more about CC and Co. again).
I want Scully to look and act like an F.B.I. agent who is capable of protecting MY ass in a firefight. And I don't think she has come across that way for some time now. GA can do the Charlies' Angels pout, swing and gunpoint all she likes but it undermines the character and it means she will have to work a lot harder to sell Scully as a serious "Federal Agent" if that is how the character is written now.
