Subject: Scully's a forensic pathologist

Scully's a forensic pathologist. That means she probably did college and medical school, went on to a pathology residency (I think that would be three or four years), then got specialty training in forensics. Beats the heck how she fit that all in, along with teaching at Quantico Academy, before she was assigned to work with Mulder at age 29 or 30. Must have been awfully smart and skipped some of that (of course, WE know how smart she is! And she certainly knows arcane facts well outside of her field of expertise!), and/or done some training concomitantly with her Quantico teaching.

At any rate, my point is, she CHOSE to be a pathologist, specifically, a forensic (law & order) pathologist. So, if she weren't in the FBI, she wouldn't be doing any "Boston Hope" or "ER" stuff, really. She'd be working in a D.C. morgue. I couldn't help think of this when she had quit the FBI in FTF. No wonder she couldn't sleep thinking about the decision.

I would think that for a forensic pathologist, nothing could be much more interesting than what she's doing, even if she has to put up with someone always telling her what autopsies to do. (I noticed and was proud she got to choose in "Drive", even if FM did have a sly smile on his face that she chose his way!) It would be especially good for a pathologist who decided she really did like working with live people a part of the time, for she does get lots of people-contact in the XF.

About the title, it is unrealistic that DS hardly ever gets introduced or called "Dr. Scully". That M.D.is hard to get and most of the world recognizes it and uses that title in preference to all others (unless you're the Pope or President or something). I think in the "real world" she'd be called that rather than "Agent" or "Special Agent" a lot. And certainly few would call her "Miss Scully" as they do on the show.
