MISS TEEN USA 2001 IS FROM MISSOURI

The new Miss Teen USA comes from the state of Missouri. Her name is Marissa Whitley and she was crowned yesterday night, in South Padre Island, Texas. The first runner-up was Miss New York, Gloria Almonte, who gained many fans with her elegance, intelligence and great sense of humor. It was a night full of surprises, but the biggest shock was Miss California's low placement. After perfect swimsuit and evening gown semi-final's presentations, she failed to advance to the final round of competition. Semi-finalist Miss Washington was another overlooked beauty. Even lowest in the rank were favorites Virginia and Minnesota, who were not even included among the semi-finalists. Miss Indiana, a finalist and GB Miss Photogenic, was also chosen as the official Miss Photogenic for the pageant. In terms of production the show was good and got most fans' approval. The swimsuit segment without interruptions was a plus. Entertainers for the night included host Brian McFadden ferom MTV, Mandy Moore, Usher, Jagged Phil and Better than Ezra. Among the judges, there were celebrities such as Raven Simone (better known as 'Olivia' in The Cosby Show), and 28-year old actor Kerr Smith, who plays 18-year old Jack McPhee in the teen drama "Dawson's Creek".
