Subject: (She wanted desperately to throw herself at him and cry her eyes out.. surely her Destin was gone.. she had seen other horses go down so quick with colic.) I think he's colicking.. (She said, her eyes frantic, round and wide and trusting.) I need you.. (She said, turning and running off to where Destin lay outside, a couple of other riders crouched by him. She threw her pride to the wind and knelt by his head, picking his head up in her lap and running her hands over his face, tears running down her cheeks.) Please help him.. he won't get up.. (She cried, her eyes running over her baby, then to Josh.. worry and love in her eyes.. it felt like her child was dying.. )

  • He jogged over to the horse, dropping in the dusty ground before he growled out to everyone. "Get back." He stated with a firm order, turning his eyes to her. "You too darlin', you gotta get back." A horse had no regard for anyone when it was colicing, no matter how close the owner and animal were. She backed up just in time as Destin started rolling and kicking, a sweat breaking out on his body. Josh set his jaw, his brow furrowed, careful of the flying, swinging hooves as he waited until the horses was back to him. As soon as he could he grabbed a hind leg, straightening it out and then pushing to force the leg beneath Destin. As soon as it was on the ground, Destin kicked up, able to get himself up. Quickly Josh picked up the lead, clicking to Destin to get him to start walking at a fairly quick pace. (NT) -- Josh, Sun, Dec 11 2005, 12:03am PST
