• (She had sort of sensed his presence there and that accounted for the way she stayed crouched with her back to him and didn't jump at his voice. Her hands worked nimbly to apply the cotton polo wrap over the layer of liniment she had applied to Destin's front leg.) Very well.. considering he has a bit of heat in his foreleg. (She shrugged a little, the gelding was young and rambunctious and probably pulled something in the paddock that had been aggravated by running through the fields. The big horse whickered and stretched his neck towards Josh, pinning his ears then raising them again. When she was satisfied she stood and looked at him, her cheeks flushed with excitement from the ride and a soft sheen of sweat on he bare arms from working with the horse.) • He cocked a brow at her hands going to the water bucket before he reached into his pocket and drew out a bandana to hand to her so she could dry off her hands. "Congratulations then." He tipped his hat to her with a smile before he drew back and leaned against the wall, kicking one boot over the other and relaxing back against the wall. "Did he tear something?" (She said as she handed it back, reaching down to haul the dirty water bucket out into the aisle so Destin wouldn't drink the liniment enriched water. She came back in and looked down at him, her own brow furrowing at the man as he checked out Destin;s leg.) He felf fine from the saddle, but when I got off and led him back he started to favor it a little bit.. maybe the adreneline masked it. (She sighed, pushing the nosey gelding's head away as he whuffed her hair and took a nip at her braid.) Hopefully the liniment will work out the soreness so I can take him home. • His eyes wandered down the horses leg before he stepped into the stall, patting his shoulder and then slipping him a peppermint to win over some trust before he knelt down, gently running his hands over the horses shin and knee before he frowned and ran his finger gingerly across one tendon. Destin shifted, huffing uncomfortably. "Seems like he strained it, some pretty good swelling going on. Your going to want to put a heat press on it and keep him stabled for a few days, running around will just aggravate it and lead to a more serious strain or even a tear." • (She stood in the open doorway to the stall, having paused after making preparations to stop him. No one was allowed near Destin but her, even her family knew that. She was protective of her baby.. but when he handing the gelding a peppermint and knelt down in a professional manner she had simply paused and let time take it's course. Something about this guy put her at ease and riled her up all at once. Sighing, she exchanged a glance with the horse.. at least she supposed she did.. and looked down at Josh.) You familiar with this sort of injury? (She asked, in a dry tone, dripping with sarcasm. She thought it was sort of interesting that he had just dropped in and known what was going on.. he probably had no idea what he was talking about.. some horse people thought they knew everything.) • He shrugged a little, standing up and petting Destin between the ears before he stepped out of the stall. "Familiar with a lot of injuries." He stated, running his hand through his shaggy hair before he placed his hat back on top of his head. He didn't like to go around bragging about his degree or anything like that, it wasn't his style and he usually didn't even say anything about it unless someone directly asked. She didn't like men telling her what she should do, getting involved in things she cared about.. making her care about their advice. He stated absently, leaning back against the wall and cocking his head to the side as he gazed at her.   • He was lounging back on a bench, talking to a pretty blonde in a ponytail with a healthy natural tan and a sweet smile. His brow cocked as he heard his name being called and for a moment the spiteful side of him wanted to throw out something about his lack of expertise in dealing with horses or especially her horse but seeing the upset on her face he stood, excusing himself with a tip of his hat to the pretty girl he had been chatting with in order to hurry on over to her. She threw her pride to the wind and knelt by his head, picking his head up in her lap and running her hands over his face, tears running down her cheeks.) Please help him.. he won't get up.. • He jogged over to the horse, dropping in the dusty ground before he growled out to everyone. "Get back." He stated with a firm order, turning his eyes to her. "You too darlin', you gotta get back." A horse had no regard for anyone when it was colicing, no matter how close the owner and animal were. She backed up just in time as Destin started rolling and kicking, a sweat breaking out on his body. Josh set his jaw, his brow furrowed, careful of the flying, swinging hooves as he waited until the horses was back to him. As soon as he could he grabbed a hind leg, straightening it out and then pushing to force the leg beneath Destin. As soon as it was on the ground, Destin kicked up, able to get himself up. • It was nearly a half hour by the time he felt Destin was alright to make sure he didn't go back down if he was left on his own. Finally he let him out into one of the pastures, even though he wanted him stalled because of the injury to his leg, he needed to walk a bit still and the colic was more dangerous then his ligament strain. She turned her gaze to Josh and the tears picked up again.. she just felt the adreneline rushing out of her in relief and the way he had expressed caring towards her when she had been such a bitch earlier made her feel weak, tired, and guilty. She had no idea where she would end up, but she knew that it wouldn't be in this town. It was kinda reassuring to see that the girl cared about something, even if it was a horse rather then a person. There were a lot of horses he liked better then a lot of people when it came down to it. His brow furrowed gently, his hand running through her hair comfortingly. "He's alright...just some dusty hay he ate probably...gotta make sure to water it down if there's any sign of dust..." She stayed there in his arms because he provided her comfort when she was upset and because he made her feel safe. He had saved her from being trampled by Destin the day before and had just saved Destin from colic and she pulled back a little to look up at him, his hat shading her eyes as well.) Thank you.. Josh.. for not.. turning away.. (She said between little hiccups, her eyes soft and sorrowful as she gazed at him, her hands still fisted in the shoulders of his shirt. She liked the ease of his voice and the gentle way he soothed her, when he had just shown strength in the face of a crisis.. when she had panicked and run around like a chicken with it's head cut off yelling for help. • He was definately a mans man in his wranglers, boots and hat. He didn't smell of fancy cologne, he smelled like horse, hay, soap and just the scent of pure man. A smile played over his lips as he looked down, shrugging his broad shoulder. "I am not the turning away kinda guy, darlin'." He stated softly, it was true - he was a loyal kinda guy. He took care of what he was decided was his and he didn't let any animal suffer. He also was a sucker for damsels in distress and she fit that bill for him an awful lot. Her cheeks were flushed and her eyes were shining with adreneline as she lowered her hands back to his chest, blinking a couple times to clear her head. I think I left his boots and blanket in the courtyard. (She sighed, shaking her head a little, clucking to Destin to get him moving and falling into step beside Josh.) • He glanced down to her, smirking a little at that. "Joshua Roberts...pleasure to meet you." He nodded in a mock greeting playfully before he stepped into the barn. Curiously, he headed over to check her hair, his suspicions confirmed when he kicked the hay bale and a light dust filled the air around it. "When you get him in his stall, go ahead and toss this bale, I'll go get you a bale from Aladdin's stash." He winked before he turned, jogging across the gravel drive to the other set of barns, disappearing into his barn and grabbing a bale of hay, hitching it up into his arms and taking it over. • (She had pulled herself together a little bit on the walk back to the barn and nodded when he figured out it was the hay. When he left though, she stood watching him leave, then eyed the hay bale.. he had helped her so much that day that moving a haybale seemed like a pretty easy thing to do to pay him back.. so she grabbed one of the tie strings and dragged it down the hall, leaving a little trail of hay stalks and dust in the air. When she rounded the corner to the compost area she gave up dragging and lugged the bale the rest of the way and heaved it up onto the pile. When she returned to where he was watching Destin munch his fresh hay she looked like she had been attacked by the hay.. with dust covering her boots and jodpurs, leaves and particles clinging to her sillky camisole and a few stalks stuck in her braid. • He laughed softly at her apperance, shaking his head as he looked her over. Sometimes he forgot that the girls here weren't like the girls back where he had used to live, those girls could toss around a bale of hay and look good doing it too - these girls were a little more fragile. He stepped forward, pulling one piece of hair out of her hair and dropping it to the ground. He stayed at the stables a lot, being that Aladdin was a stallion he needed to be let out of the stall more often then the geldings and definately more often then the mares so he'd have to watch that too. Heading back to his barn yet again, he grabbed the cooler, which was thankfully on wheels - full of water, snacks, a couple sodas - and then folded up the cot with the blankets folded up inside of it. • (She was singing softly to Destin as she released the braids from his tail and brushed the dust and dirt from his coat until it shone even in the dim barn lighting. She was becoming more and more relaxed by the soothing sounds of the horses sleeping around her. As a child she had always been comforted by the barns and had spent many hours sleeping in her pony's stall when she had been upset about things. By the time he got back she was singing as though no one could hear her and Destin was lightly dozing under her hands as she rubbed her hands over his coat massaging and moving the oils in his skin around. He smiled, sitting down in the chair himself and breaking out a bottle of water before thinking twice of it and grabbing a soda - the caffine would keep him awake. Sort of like him.. he had a way about him that put her at ease, when she wasn't trying to get nominated for bitch of the year. I would love you forever if I could relieve you of that water bottle.. (She said in a desperate sounding voice.. working in the barns could give a girl dry mouth, that was for sure. • He nodded a little, opening up the cooler and giving her a fresh bottle. "There's some sandwiches, soda, stuff like that in there, feel free to help yourself." He grabbed a blanket himself, covering up in it, it was a little bit chilly in the cool night air. Looking down at his cell phone, he turned it to vibrate but then set the alarm for three hours from then so he would remember to go let out Aladdin for a little while. Satisfied that it was clean enough, she piled it into a messy bun and wrapped the pony holder around it a few times, before stretching out on the cot and eyeing him.) I really do appreciate all your help, Josh.. I mean it. (She said, stifling a yawn and wrapping up in the blanket. It smelled like him.. horse and hay and man.. it was a wonderful, intoxicating smell and made her wish he was laying there with her instead of examining his cell phone. • "Just sleep, darlin'." He commented absently, tugging the blanket up around him as he kept his eyes on the horse. He loved being in the barn, hearing the soft sounds of the horses whickering and chomping on some grain - it comforted him. He had a lot of stuff going on in his life, a lot that no one knew about. The masters in Equine science wasn't his only degree, it was only part of what he really wanted to do, so any chance he had to just sit back and think about his future plans, thats exactly what he did...
