I've heard Fringe got better in the second half of season 1 with an awesome cliffhanger. S2 was supposed to be great and S3 too although with some mid-season valleys.

If anyone likes British TV, there is a new version of Sherlock Holmes set in modern times simply called Sherlock. The first season is on DVD and is merely 3 90 minute specials. One may balk at the idea of Holmes in the modern world but they pulled it off well and without the action hero stuff of Robert Downey's version.
