While I can't feel *too* sorry for actors who make more for filming one ep of a show than I do in a year, I really do think this will probably be the beginning of a downhill slide for "CSI". Very few shows improve once the original actors leave, especially if it is done after viewers have really had a chance to get to know the characters. (A notable exception was "JAG", which actually did better -- both ratings wise and creatively -- after they dropped the original lead actress and replaced her with Catherine Bell. But they switched actresses between the first and second seasons, and hardly anybody had watched the first season anyway, so there wasn't a lot of familiarity with the character.)
I hope to see George Eads on the big screen sometime soon! I have to agree that the business of Sarah having a crush on Gris had gotten old, so I won't be sorry to see that storyline come to an end or, for that matter, particularly sorry to see Sarah leave at all. But I'll miss Nick! In the "silver lining" department, maybe this will draw more viewes to "Navy NCIS" as it's a similar show, but is keeping its entire cast intact. I like the dynamic between the NCIS folks better, anyway. . .they take their work seriously, but seem to have more of a sense of humor about themselves than the CSI crew does.
