But even a moderately successful reality show costs near to nothing. A sci-fi show needs sets & FX that cost more than even network primetime drama shows do. As a result, the show has to be a winner or it's done. Dark Angel did respectable ratings wise but the prospect of a show by Buffy creator Joss Whedon caused them to cancel DA. They didn't want to pay for 2 sci-fi shows. Whedon's Firefly did worse & got pulled after half a season. Fox could afford to have both shows running but instead we have 2 (& more) dead shows that had so much potential. Really sad. The British don't do this as much but then they work with much smaller budgets.
