He's been there since the beginning but he's graduated from Lab tech to field CSI. I think another lab tech guy played by Wallace Langham (can't think of his character name right now) has been there a long time too but his part has become more prominent in recent years. So have a couple of the other lab techs. They did an episode a year or so ago that featured all the lab geeks as the main storyline.

Sarah Sidle has returned too but only sporadically.

As for this trilogy, I still can't figure out why CSI:Miami is so bad compared to the others. The acting for the most part is atrocious, espcecially by that blonde woman. And through this episode all the Miami CSIs couldn't even seem to tie their shoes without Ray Langston's (Fishburne) help. He figured out things where they couldn't. How do they ever solve any cases?

It would be fun to see all the characters from all the shows get together for an episode rather than just Ray. Then the Vegas and New York CSIs could make fun of how inept the Miami CSIs are! :)
