Subject: Why Stardoe?
In reply to: Stardoe 's message, "I need americans to watch it." on 03:28:25 10/12/08 Sun

Why do you need us to watch if it is of no consequence to you if it fails?

Before the fall season starts I decide on which new show I'm going to try out. I usually base my choice on promos I've seen of them, who's in them and if the subject appeals to me or not.

For instance I saw many promos for the comedy "Worst Week" and thought it looked really funny so I gave it a try and so far it's been pretty good.
I also saw many promos for "Kath and Kim" and immediately scratched it off my 'ones to watch' list. The clips I saw in promos were not funny to me at all. In fact they seemed distasteful and very unfunny. I assume that the network tries to make a good first impression and put some of what they consider to be the funniest bits in their promos so if I thought what I saw was terrible I saw no point in watching an entire episode. Plus, I don't care for Molly Shannon who plays one of the characters.

It has nothing to do with me having an "open mind". I do not want to nor can I waste my time watching every new show in the fall season every year and I chose, on my own, not to watch this one simply because it didn't appeal to me in any way.

You obviously love the Aussie version of this show so have an interest in what Americans think about a copy of it. I get that. But then you go on to make odd generalizations about the US, lumping us all into one group as if we all think the same. There may well be some Americans who like this new show, I have no idea. But every opinion is different, we're just not all the same. And apparently I am not in any way a "typical American" because, for the most part, I don't watch the most popular shows on tv.

I don't watch "Dancing With the Stars," I've never watched one episode of "Survivor" in all its years, and two of my current favorite shows, "Prison Break" and "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" are consistently near the bottom of the weekly ratings.
With quite a few shows over the past several years, a lot of new series that I've loved have failed in the ratings here and gotten cancelled before the end of the first season. So it's clear to me that, very often, my tastes are not in line with many other Americans as far as tv in concerned. I know that's true with popular music as well.

So my opinion an an "American" wouldn't be very helpful to you. You might try going online and doing a search for people's blogs about "Kath and Kim" to get a cross section of what some Americans might think of it.
I don't have any desire to watch it myself. The promos I saw really turned me off so I took a pass on this one. And since I do value your opinion and you've already stated that the episode you watched was horrible, there's one more good reason for me not to waste my time with this program.
