Subject: Shows getting cancelled

Have you heard that three more shows have gotten the ax? "Pushing Daisies", "Dirty Sexy Money" and "Eli Stone". I don't watch any of those but both my sister and mom watch Dirty and Eli and I know SMH watched Dirty and I think CW watches Eli.

Previously "My Own Worst Enemy also got cancelled. I did watch that but wasn't too invested in it. My sister has always loved Christian Slater so she's bummed about Enemy going. Sorry for your loss. It's sad when quality shows get dropped. I've lost many of my faves and I'm sure I'll lose more.

What gets me is, I don't think they are accurately gauging the audiences. They do track Tivo/DVR viewership but only in a limited way and I heard that they don't track internet viewing at all and with many shows putting their entire episodes online for people to watch how can the Neilsen ratings possibly know how many viewers a program is getting?

Also, I don't think the networks should expect ratings to be as high as they used to be. While a show like Seinfeld got over 30 million in its day, the top shows now, like CSI barely get 20 mil, usually less. It's just the fact that there are much more outlets for tv watching and many more channels than there used to be. They shouldn't expect to get super high numbers anymore. What they should concentrate on is how loyal a show's fanbase is.

I never mentioned this as I was sworn to secrecy--but since it's been a few years and I haven't heard one word from them lately I guess I can bring it up now. A few years ago i was chosen as a Neilsen viewer They were going to keep track of what I recorded on my Tivo-through some electronic means. I never did find out if my choices had any affect whatsoever on the numbers. Oh well.
