I'm surprised that some of these shows have have been pulled, simply because it's unusual for *any* show to be pulled in the middle of a second (or subsequent) seasons. Generally, speaking the only time shows are axed midway thru the year is during their freshman year. Usually any show that makes it at least one full season is guaranteed a complete second season, too.

The thing you have to remember about the Nielsen ratings — and it took me a LONG time to understand this — is that they are primarily a tool used to sell advertising. So they're not really measuring who watches what *shows* so much as they are measuring who is watching what advertising.
For an example: if you're a movie producer with a big movie opening on Friday, you'll buy advertising during a Thursday night show in order to try to increase your chances of getting a big opening weekend at the box office. You don't really care how many people might record the show and either skip over the commercials or watch the commercials on, say, Sunday night when it's too late for them to rush out and buy tickets for your movie. From your perspective, unless the viewers watch the show, complete with commercials, as it's airing on Thursday night, they don't really "count".

It's very cool that you got to be a Nielsen viewer, detoured! Was this during the time X-Files was on? Maybe you kept it going for a couple of extra seasons! (Too bad you couldn't do more for "The Lone Gunmen".)
