The writers strike and season finales

I've noticed that several TV series (none I watch; just ones I saw ads for) went ahead and aired "season finales" during the last week of November. Apparently they did this because, due to the writers strike, they knew they weren't going to have new eps to run in December and January.
But what are they going to do if the writers come back to work in early January and production can begin again in time for the February sweeps? Having already wrapped up the season after the tenth episode or so will they just continuously air reruns until September or what?
