Ten Canoes. I have not seen it but plan to. It's now on DVD here. It's about abos and it's in their language[s]. Totally in their language[s]. Apparently it is the closest thing to showing how they truely lived before white man came and ruined it all. The star and/or producer is the son of David Gulpillil [sp] the koori bloke in the first Croc Dundee film. Has starred in a number of movies and is very well known but fame has done nothing for him. I plan to buy the movie. Another one is "Rabbit Proof Fence" I will never see that film because I will just cry. Like Lassie. I can't even talk about that movie let alone watch it. People say RPF is a very good movie.

I"m afraid in recent years Australia has succummed to making quaint movies that are typical of a culture that is fading away. "Cracker", "The Castle", "Strange Bedfellows" , "Kenny" etc. are examples of these. I enjoy them but really wonder if you people would/do. That's why I want you to see them and give me your opinion.

We also went through a colonial stage with "The Man from Snowy River" and some very good mini series like "All the Rivers Run" and "Against the Wind". They were years ago. "The POtato Factory," based on Bryce Courtenay's book, was a more recent one. That was pretty good. I could not even tell you the name of an exiting Aussie movie right now. I know there are some actors and I think the director of Pirates of the Carribean are Aussies. So , yeah it is hard to tell these days what is ours and what is made here and what is a hybrid.
