Author: kenamom, who came looking for XF movie news?
Subject: Continuing on that long thread!

I am home with a foot injury and the weather has changed to rain, so I am on line way too much!!

Commercials, most you guys are talking of, we don't get here. We do get the PC/Mac ads. While really cute and original in the beginning, they are loosing thier charm. Who ever suggested the ad campaign might backfire was correct. I am starting to feel compassion towards the PC man. I mean, which one would I want to do my taxes - business suits or smart mouth?

Food Chains, we have a few different ones in Canada, although the basics are still around. We have a small regional chain of White Spots (name is pretty generic as I have seem many White Spot resturants in my travels, just not the same chain) which serves a FANTASTIC burger. Thier own triple O sauce is the secret. If your ever in Vancouver find one and order the Mushroom platter. You won't be disappointed. We also have Applebee's and some of the bigger ones. Since I have two boys, I do use these resturants as they are very family friendly.

Seafood, who said they didn't like lobster??? LOL. I LOVE shellfish, as do my kids. We do eat more crab as it is abundant around here. We have friends with a boat and a crab trap which they put out most weekends. Lobster is best eaten when it is out of the ocean within 24 hours. Unfortunatly those big tanks in resturants don't do them justice. It is kind of like life support for lobsters. Won't get the same tender rich meat as those 'free range' lobsters. Next time you are in the northern east coast (Maine I believe) try one of thier right on the shore resturants. You might change your mind. Memories of 'Changa', remember Scully's comment when the Sherrif ordered lobster and began ripping it apart (the proper way to eat a lobster BTW)'looks like it came .out of a Jules Vern novel'

As for Grocery stores, the most popular and numerous ones are regional chains. Save-On Foods, Overwaity, and Coopers are all the same company. We also have Safeways and SuperValues but the SuperValues are becomeing few and far between. Mostly being bought out by Choices, which is an overpriced 'organic' type grocery store. While the thought is there, I could never afford to feed two sons on thier prices. I am not positive but I believe CHoices is an American company, as is Thrifty foods which is opening up stores in the newer area's over the last few years. I do like Thrifty's, great choices and excellent service.

The worst yet most popular is 'The Real Canadian Superstore' and as you assumed by the name, it is a canadian chain! It is a no frills large store that you can get everything from clothing, car parts to furniture with your grocery order. While I hate the crowd, the lack of service and I really hate packing my own groceries, you can't beat the prices and I find myself there at least once a month. Also they have a premium house brand that is fantastic with most of the products. I love the detergent, the ready made sauces among other products.

Anyone use big box discount stores like Costco? I do that about once a month too, great deals on things I use a lot of. Also they carry the XF DVD sets at only $25 per season.
