Subject: Millennium season 2 on DVD

How many of you were into Millennium? The most successful of CC/M & G's endevors out side of TXF. I watched about the first half of season 1 and kinda got bored with every episode seeming like watching Irresistable over & over. But then I heard online from MM fans that the later part of S1 & all of S2 were the best stuff 1013 ever did (with most saying S3 was a let down). So I was curious but missed the FX reruns & had to wait till now to see 'em on DVD. Gotta say I always liked Lance Henrikson & was glad to see him as a lead after so many years of supporting (mostly villain) roles. Brave of CC to go with him as I've heard Fox thought he was too old & turned off viewers. To think he even went grey for S3!!! Bet Fox was livid.

Terry O'Quinn is also impressive here and I'm sure some folks who love him in Lost would want to check him out here with a mustashe & some hair. The show is certainly darker than TXF was & had a few eps that really got graphic. A nice change of pace to have a family man instead of a single guy although they went for the father/widower in S3.

Now, S2 had Morgan & Wong in charge & CC on the making of part says he was so busy with XF S5 & the movie that he never even saw all the eps of MM S2!! Morgan & Wong declined to be interviewed for the set, is there bad blood? They certainly wanted MM to have a mythology like XF & have Frank discover that the Millennium Group had secret agendas & factions. Frank still had cases like in S1 but there was always a bit of an on going story stiched in.

The mood got lighten with 2 great Darin Morgan scripts. He brought back Jose Chung which makes me sure MM is in the same universe as XF. Also the ep with the 4 demons talking in a coffee shop. That one might have been too self knowing but it was a good change of pace. There were 2 eps that were both holiday specials(Halloween & XMas) & looks into Frank's past. Darren MacGaivn once again plays the father figure/forerunner to a CC hero.

The 2 two parters told us some more of the Group & its inner workings but not too much of course. Lara Means was another addition but under used. Her best moment being an LSD-like freak out in The Time is Near to the tune of Patti Smith's Horses. That was some trippy stuff for network TV, took up a whole segment. Too bad she didn't reappear in S3.

Overall, I liked the season but there were some lame to mediocre eps. Best serial killer ep was Avatar with a Zodiac like killer using the interet (new idea at the time). Lucy Butler returned from S1 but in a bit of a confusing ep. She seems to be Frank's nemesis. Frank's wife & daughter were estranged during the season & Megan Gallagher didn't appear in about half the eps although given credit on each. She did get an ep all to herself but says she was happy to get killed off at the end of the season. The estrangement certainly made Frank even more isolated as they were his rock to hold to in S1 with all the nastiness he saw. I'd say this is a very good show but not better than XF. And with the real millennium come & gone, is this feeling a little dated now?
