but then some of my students are in wheelchairs. It really irritates me when people see the chair and not the person. I guess our society is still too hung up on being perfect and beautiful. Sad state of affairs, if you ask me. Just because one's legs don't work doesn't mean that their intellect is affected. The same thing goes for individuals with Cerebral Palsy. Just because one might have a speech impediment, gross or fine motor problems or any combination of the above, doesn't mean that he or she is not intelligent.

It is amazing how adaptable and creative individuals with disabilities can be. I see some pretty creative solutions sometimes. Nice to see students and young adults become self-advocates in the school settings!
