That's how they call remakes in Hollywood nowadays instead of remake. A remake sounds like you just redid someone else's work, something old that the kids wouldn't know about or like. But reinvisioning means you added more to it & made it "fresh".

The new House of Wax film had almost 0 in common with the 1953 Vincent Price film. The wax museum was in some kind of abandoned town & run by wackosrather than a guy running a wax museum in New York & using real people as figures in some kind of bizarre revenge. Night Stalker is not so far off as both had reporters as main characters but the tone & back story are different. To me, it owes lots more to X-Files than to the original Night Stalker.

I do have hopes for the King Kong remake. Peter Jackson has said he wants it as close to the 1933 version as possible. He felt today's kids wouldn't want to see the original but would love the story with updated FX & actors.
