I actually prefer the original version of that (circa 1930). Very creepy and having it be an early try at color film adds to the effect. I think one draw for the second remake for some people may have been seeing Paris Hilton get killed. ;)

Despite the old, 'kids won't watch old movies/black and white movies' argument which I don't buy, just about everyone of every age knows who King Kong is. I do think Jackson's remake could do very well if it has something to it to make it stand out. The ape's got to look very real though or it won't work.
