I wonder if these conferences would eventually merge and create two divisions that grouped schools in a way that could reduce travel costs

No way. No, no talk of that. The MAAc is already big enough. Unless you get multiple bids, merging does not make much sense. Go Griffs!

I agree. Way way too many teams especially for a one bid league. Geez it's been 30 years with 10-12 schools.

Something like this? NY/NJ: Albany, Binghamton, Canisius, Iona, Manhattan, Marist,. NJIT, Niagara, Rider, St. Peters, Siena. NEW ENGLAND: Bryant, Fairfield, Maine, Merrimac, Mount St. Marys, New Hampshire, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, U Maryland Baltimore County, University Mass. Lowell, Vermont. LeMoyne could be added to NY/NJ to even up at twelve teams each.

A 24 team league? What a horrible idea.

With a one bid league it’s just stupid to go bigger. Let’s win the MAAC and get in!

The Selection Committee would love that. 1 less automatic Bid,so they can select a 16-16 from a Power Conference

Well, it would be two 11 team leagues. The America East has 13 and the MAAC has 9. It's easy for BG to miscount in the AM (and other times). LeMoyne would not be needed with the 22, unless another D1 New England school could be found for 24. But look at what's happening nationally . NY/NJ and NE schools look as if those regions could divide easily. Would travel costs be worth it? But for now, Let's Go Griffs. UMBC also isn't New England so ---?

The MAAC has 13 and America East has 9. So you would go to all of the trouble to put teams from one conference in with teams from another conference to create 2 new conferences to cut down on travel?

As BG said above: Would travel costs be worth it?

Obviously not. Are you even serious about this? You want to create a new 24 or 22 team conference to save the cost of an extra 4 hours on a bus? Come on man.

I would recommend setting them up this way to reduce travel costs and support regional rivalries.

Northern Division
• University of Maine (Orono, ME)
• University of Vermont (Burlington, VT)
• University of New Hampshire (Durham, NH)
• Merrimack College (North Andover, MA)
• UMass Lowell (Lowell, MA)
• Bryant University (Smithfield, RI)
• Siena College (Loudonville, NY)
• University at Albany (Albany, NY)
• Binghamton University (Vestal, NY)
• Canisius University (Buffalo, NY)
• Niagara University (Lewiston, NY)

This division clusters schools in New England and upstate NY, minimizing long-distance travel.

Southern Division
• Quinnipiac University (Hamden, CT)
• Sacred Heart University (Fairfield, CT)
• Fairfield University (Fairfield, CT)
• Iona University (New Rochelle, NY)
• Manhattan College (Riverdale, Bronx, NY)
• Marist College (Poughkeepsie, NY)
• Saint Peter’s University (Jersey City, NJ)
• NJIT (Newark, NJ)
• Rider University (Lawrenceville, NJ)
• Mount St. Mary’s University (Emmitsburg, MD)
• UMBC (Catonsville, MD

With the way things are going in college spots, banding together may help keep these schools afloat at the d1 level

Oops, there are two MD schools. How would sending CU and NU all the way over to ME,VT and NH reduce travel costs? Been to all three states, long hauls.

It’s never going to happen!

Why would you merge these two conferences & only secure one bid for the tourney?

Both of these conferences are lower tier.

It’s not the SEC or Big 10.

The Griffs need to win the MAAc & play better

Go Griffs!

BG is not in favor of merging the MAAC and American East. What was intended was how travel convenient my NY/NJ "MAAC" would be with a league of all NY and NJ schools. What if that happened and it was a 12 school NY/NJ league adding LeMoyne? But,yes, there's a lot of value in the MAAC as it is.
