EVDP is just a Sophomore, but on track for a fine career IMO.It would be a shame if the freshmen don't stay at Canisius. What's the point?

Does anyone know what the market is for mid majors pirating each others players these days? How many mid-major recruits just want to play that game and don't give a rats ass about the morality of their their college/university choice. How is the "game" played any way? How do their parents feel about that when their young man/woman comes home without a decent degree? Or none at all?

There are several mid-major kids getting 6 figures. Coach Christian said at this year's caravan that there are individual players in the MAAC getting more NIL money than what other programs are able to spend on their entire team.
They are offered NIL money out of the program's NIL budget. It's just another layer of the recruiting process. And I'm sure their parents are thrilled to death since there are plenty of places where they can go, get a decent degree, and make a boatload of money for a 20 year old kid.

BG hopes our recruits and their parents and advisers know there is more to attending college/university than getting NIL money, those students going to mid-major schools especially. They will be receiving four year athletics scholarships, but they will do that to receive an excellent education to prepare them for a lifetime profession. Certainly at a school like C.U.. Their goal is their degree, right? Their advice should be something like "make the first choice the best one". It's great to get some $$ to help along the way to the degree. But remind them it also it requires paying Federal Income Tax and State Tax in most states. In recent years we've heard of student athletes jumping from 1 to 2 to 3 and to 4 different schools, not just a few of them not receiving degrees and not reaching careers. There have been many MBB and WBB players coming to Canisius for their four years and graduating into successful Lawyers, Doctors, Teachers, Bankers,etc.,etc.,etc.. A lot of them staying here in Buffalo for their entire careers. Yes, there have been some who reached the NBA (before NIL, but not ancient). Here's a true story BG experienced when he was a student at C.C.in the days our Golden Griffins played at the AUD downtown before crowds of, oh, any where from 6,000 to 10,000 people. Back then Freshmen couldn't play on the varsity until Sophomore year, so the scholarship Freshmen together with other Frosh played other Freshman teams. One January after exams BG, when he was a student, was walking in Old Main late one afternoon, he heard crying and then saw another student talking with another one who was bawling (not balling) his eyes out. He had flunked out of Canisius. He had to leave the College. BG recognized him as a Sophomore member of the MBB team. Today, he would have been helped in the appropriate office at Canisius to get him back on track. Our recruits of today, BG believes, are picking the first one as the best one. Let's Go Griffs!

So if a kid is getting 5k in NIL money at Canisius, enters the portal to gauge interest and gets offered 50k to go to Loyola Chicago, he should stay at Canisius because they were "the first one"? Or what if he gets offered 150k to go to VCU?

We can bemoan the current system or we can adjust and try to find a competitive advantage.

I agree. And lower level mid major coaches know that with the current system, they are going to virtually lose their entire roster every year. Don't be surprised to see Mulcahy and maybe one more domestic freshman be it. Maybe. Recruiting efforts are going to turn entirely to JUCO's, foreign players who want to get exposure in the US, and portal kids looking to have one big year to make themselves more marketable to a school with more NIL money.

The only way to limit this is for the NCAA to limit the number of transfers to 1. But that would end up in the courts too.
