Niagara & Canisius Don Not Know How To Close Out Games -- Spartan73, Fri, January 30 2026, 19:54:30
Both teams are eerily similar but that's not a surprise. When you have to constantly regroup with new players every season due to the portal/NIL situation you have new kids learning how to play with each other under a new coach (for them). Also, you don't recruit the best talent to begin with, and the kids have to learn how to win, which takes the very experience that is lacking to begin with; so you have a recipe that is not conducive to being able to close out games. You have to be able to find the "guy" that is able to take command through leadership such as your PG or SG or whomever. Both Niagara and Canisius do not have that "guy" who is able to do that at this time. The sad thing is that at the end of the year your back to the portal recycling again and you lose those promising pieces that might have taken you forward in the coming years. It's like circling the drain. The NIL and portal is killing programs like Niagara and Canisius. You are constantly unable to close out games and don't know how to win.

I agree to a point but portal recycling and losing promising players is true for all MAAC schools. I believe Marist brought back the most guys at 8 (5 new guys) while the vast majority have 8-11 new players.

Re: Bad Loss -- Cager, Sat, January 31 2026, 6:13:55
Griffs came within 4 seconds of a win. Agree, the Foxes time out with 4 seconds remaining and down by 2 executed a beautiful inbound pass that resulted in in a tied game, and on to overtime. I knew playing an additional 5 minutes would result in a loss, but none the less , it was a terrific game. The Griffs with five guys in double figures really played hard. Unfortunately, only a few of the faithful were on hand to see a great college basketball game. Go Griffs!!! And yes,Tim Harvey was unbelievable. RIP!!

John Dunne -- The guy can coach., Sat, January 31 2026, 7:47:25
He knew exactly what to draw up at the end of regulation & OT. Tough loss for the Griffs & hopefully they play just as hard tomorrow. Griffs can’t let game like this to slip away. Go Griffs!

Just got home from a personal "must do" and couldn't make the game. This seems to be another "Should-a, Could-a, Would-a", "close but no cigar" loss. To the Frosh and Sophs on CU MBB SCHOLARSHIPS right now and to our Commits for the next class: DAMN IT YOU GUYS all stick around and graduate as Griffs. Success in sports and careers in life need to be built. The Coaches and Academics at CU are here to build you and your lives to do that, but won't be able to do that without each of you being here for the full ride! That's what should be your motivation in coming to College or University in the first place.
