Subject: Niagara & Canisius Don Not Know How To Close Out Games
In reply to: Griff 's message, "Bad Loss" on Fri, January 30 2026, 18:28:46

Both teams are eerily similar but that's not a surprise. When you have to constantly regroup with new players every season due to the portal/NIL situation you have new kids learning how to play with each other under a new coach (for them). Also, you don't recruit the best talent to begin with, and the kids have to learn how to win, which takes the very experience that is lacking to begin with; so you have a recipe that is not conducive to being able to close out games. You have to be able to find the "guy" that is able to take command through leadership such as your PG or SG or whomever. Both Niagara and Canisius do not have that "guy" who is able to do that at this time. The sad thing is that at the end of the year your back to the portal recycling again and you lose those promising pieces that might have taken you forward in the coming years. It's like circling the drain. The NIL and portal is killing programs like Niagara and Canisius. You are constantly unable to close out games and don't know how to win.

I agree to a point but portal recycling and losing promising players is true for all MAAC schools. I believe Marist brought back the most guys at 8 (5 new guys) while the vast majority have 8-11 new players.
