Our ship to a more respectable conference sailed long ago, seems many Maac school supporters would just assume get rid of us and niagara for a better conference they think, the fact that both Niagara and Canisius were far superior to all of the other Maac schools back in the day and both considered nationally prominent programs obviously means nothing today, it's all about commitment of substantial resources today to the program which Canisius never has done even in the winning periods.

So you are saying that because Canisius never evolved and is stuck in the 1960's they should get credit for that?

[> [> [> MY Point: The MAAC Doesn't Attract Quality Players -- Spartan73, Thu, February 05 2026, 9:13:44

I thought my previous post was quite clear. The MAAC is a drag on the development of its' member schools. Basically, except for a low to mid 3 star player , here and there, the Conference is composed of mostly 2 and 1 star players. Now I am expanding the conversation beyond our usual gripes about the NIL and Portal, to note that the MAAC, itself, does not generate a lot of interest for those coming out of high school or the portal. So yes, if NU and CU were in a better conference, ie, the Atlantic 10, the recruiting would also manifest an uptick in player quality. Let me just add that having stated the above, there are no easy remedies at this point in time for the tow programs. Historically speaking, CU and NU have made their beds and the future is pretty bleak for both schools and programs.

Well they aren't going to a bigger conference when you can't make it in a smaller one. Facilities alone preclude that. Among 100 other things. Not even worth discussing.

Are you just figuring out there are tiers in college sports? Guess what? The Horizon League doesn't get 5 stars. I don't at all get your point.

You guys seem beaten down and are upset about it all. So what can change your fortunes? A new AD, a new head coach, an even newer University President ? Because from what I see at NU and CU, the present is your future. The days of Baron and Joe Mihalich are over. Nothing would make me happier than to see a strong BIG 4 in WNY. Even the Big 4 in Philadelphia looks nothing like it was back in the day. The Courts and the NCAA , hopefully, will step back someday and reverse their course and restore college athletics to where it was before their horrible and destructive decisions.

No not happy. Temporarily beaten down as with any losing program at any level. You try to figure out how to win in the MAAC. Obviously if there was a simple answer, it wouldn't be a problem.

[> [> [> [> The Horizon League ??? -- Spartan73, Sat, February 07 2026, 11:40:51

The Horizon League is another cupcake conference. What goes for us goes for them. They get bottom of the barrel 2, 1, and zero star players, HS or portal , included. They also get the rare high 3 star player, as well.

I'm talking about the MAAC, and NU and CU. Oh wow, Youngstown State and its other fellow programs that can't beat their meat. C'mon , you're smarter than that.

NU and CU = those other crap conferences. Yeah, give me such power houses as Morgan State, Howard, the Citadel, Norfolk State, Bellarmine. They are now our equals ! Programs CU and NU would have beaten by 30 points back in the days can now kick our asses.

A number of years ago, the MAAC was a bonafide mid-major conference, and even had programs ranked in the mid-major top 25. NOT TODAY !

What in the world are you talking about? So every school in the country should be in a "non-cupcake" conference? Obviously there has to be a #1 league and a #32 league. The MAAC is made up primarily of small private schools. Do you really think that in this day and age we can compete with upper echelon programs? Yeah the MAAC isn't what it was 20 years ago. The Ohio Valley isn't either. The NEC, America East. Patriot, etc. Have you not followed the many shifts in college athletics?

Marist was in the mid-major top 25 last year. Who gives a shit what the people who associate with you don't know about college basketball and the MAAC. Anyone who has a clue can at least recognize every D1 team in the nation. Go away again. You're a clown.

All true. So, unless CU builds a facility like FU's for about 5000 fans and commits to low 7 figures for coaching and NIL money (year after year) the CU MBB program is finished. Put the money where there is a better return on investment.

5000 seat facility?
Can't fill the 2000 seat facility.
7 figures for coaching and NIL?
My guess is most Canisius alums from last 15-20 years are NOT donating to basketball and NIL.

If students don't show up for FREE while in school, they are NOT donating, buying STH when they graduate.

They don't win something soon.... going to be 200 people in the stands and that exlcudes players, media, KAC staff.
