Re: Very Good Win -- BfloGriff, Sun, March 01 2026, 8:22:23
That's what stinks in the NIL "system". How can a recruited Freshman class grow, especially at a D1 mid-major level, if he/she cannot continue in Academics as made possible by an MBB/WBB scholarship if he/she cannot continue to also grow in BB?
The "system" begins to rot if the coach decides he/she isn't good enough right now and pulls the scholarship at the end of the Frosh season.Well, at mid-major D1 schools, there are few level 5 or 4 talents in the Freshman class (OK really not any, except maybe in the Ivy League). These days for those level 3,2 and 1 -17,18, 19 year old recruits from the high schools or prep schools, potential growth is being stunted by players transferring out as $$ hoppers or in from others transferring in from the portal.

And why you are seeing a lot of kids going the JUCO route out of high school - even when they are qualifiers - in hopes they are more enticing to a D1 school after playing at a higher level for a season. A la Dylan Godfrey and current recruiting target Cooper Kesler.
