I'm a guy that graduated from Canisius in the 80's and was very active in several athletic programs but moved out West. My son goes to High Point. As a 3 year High School Varsity Baseball player in SoCal graduating at only 17 his first varsity year at 14, he wasn't highly recruited because of his age and quite frankly his size. High Point had him on the radar and we took a visit to the school. He saw the players that they had were 23-25 years old and said "no way" for baseball, but loved the school so he went there anyway without playing baseball. The High Point President is Not a billionaire, but he knows many of them and he is a GREAT fundraiser. From various reports High point has about 1.2 Billion in Assets but very little or no debt. He has maybe 30-50 or more major companies such as Netflix and google with on campus residences that meet with students regularly. My son is in his 2nd year majoring in Business Analytics and Sports Management, and the school has flown him and a couple of other hundred students on private charters to both Providence last year and Portland this year for March Madness. The President didn't pay for that. I can tell you this didn't happen over night, High Point had a plan and it is working. I have met President Stout and he is a very nice guy...but doesn't have a presence like Father Demske or Cooke and I am not sold on any vision, especially for sports. High Point's President Qubein has the fundraising capabilities, space and actual donors. Word has it High Point might buy up an old Mall area and start a D1 Football team. Not sure Stout can bring those assets to the table. I root for Canisius it is disappointing for the school continually being bottom feeders in multiple sports. Administrations win Championships
