Heard that Mike MacDonald was at the Reilly Center over the weekend. I wish him well. Great guy. Crazy to think that he never had to pack up and move with his coaching changes. Canisius to Medaille to Daemen.

St. Bonaventure is finalizing a deal with D-2 Daemen head coach and Bonnies alum Mike MacDonald, source told
@thefieldof68.

MacDonald was the head coach at Canisius from 1997-2006, and was 108-153 in nine seasons.

He then took over at Medaille in 2006, and was 149-73 in eight seasons before going to Daemen in 2014. He is 232-84 in the past 11 years.

Bonnies GM Adrian Wojnarowski knows MacDonald well, and wanted to find someone that would be strong at evaluating, developing and retaining players.

Then what's your point? You continue to suggest that we will retain players because of the academics or the Jesuit traditions. 95% of players don't give a shit about that. They are going to where the money is period. If we had more money we'd retain more good players. Have you read the comments below of the Waterboy?

"No shit Sherlock" is a sarcastic idiom used to mockingly respond to someone stating ah obvious fact.

Yeah no shit. Everybody knows that. What are you even talking about? You think players should be staying because they can't get a degree anywhere else and should turn down money.

Preach. Bflogriff is so out of touch with reality with his comments in here about the academics and Jesuit traditions. 99% of the players don’t even have the slightest clue what Jesuit traditions are when they commit lol.

Great move for Bona Canisius should have never let him go he recruited well from buffalo Rochester and Detroit played good out of conference teams and was always in the games even when we lost.

He did recruit some very good players but in a different era than now, we kept him on longer than some schools would have because he is a great person , I am sure he has matured a lot as a coach at this point and hope he does well, I always thought one of the issues when he coached here was his very inexperienced staff and that we were spending very little back then to support mens basketball .

Why did we let him go?

Look at what he did to a stable & winning John Beilein program.

Key Details of MacDonald's Canisius Tenure:
Overall Record: 108–153.

Duration: 1997–2006 (9 seasons).

Best Season: 2000–01 (20–11, MAAC Tournament Championship appearance).

Average Standing: Frequently placed in the middle or lower half of the MAAC, with a 9-20 record in his final 2005-06 season.
