"TAFFIE!" i shout with joy. I jump from hind legs to fore legs, hind to fore, hind to fore in excitement. I take the pup in my mouth and ruffle her fur with my forehead. I look up at Dust suddenly realizing she'd been the one to find her. Gratitude reflecting in my eyes I say quietly,"Thank you Dust. Thanks for finding Taffie. Thanks for being the role of a mother when I needed guidance, and a perfect friend when I needed companionship. Thanks for being you!" My gaze locks with hers and I see the past, from day one in her eyes. The good times, and the bad, and most of all, I see the strong character she is, that she has so graciously imprinted in me as well. Before I get too lost in thoughts of contentness I hear Storm greeting Snow Bound and...and...."DONTE`!" I screach before racing out side, nails rapping on the wooden floors. I skid to a hault. I roll over on my back and briskly bat at the childs paw, Snow soon awakens and begins a miniture game of tag. I smile. I scoot Taffie closer to me with my muzzle and wait for her water to be brought to her. I would encourage her to play, but doubt looms over head about how harsh her condition really is. I know she'll make it with proper care and a family. I look at her brother comfortably sprawled in the silky grass. A complete family at last. My heart skips a beat. Wait. Darkness....Fang...all the others...where have they disappeared to. I glance over my shoulder at Dust sitting calmly in the frame of the doorway. I wonder what's going on behind those eyes of hers. Is she frightened? Frightened we've lost those family members forever? Doesn't she doubt? Yes. She must. Because with out doubt of somethings she'd have no way of suppling courage to us. Those brave eyes flash across the yard, jerking from one dog to the next. Her eyes say so much. They are brimming with strength, and leadership, yet they are soft, and lined with caring emotions. Bitter sweet. Everything is bitter sweet. Thrilled to have one pup, tramatized to not have the other. What's happened to this once tight nit community? Will we ever completely reunit?
