"What would you do?
Would you swim free,
Or in a zoo?
Would you eat fresh food,
Or canned feed?
Would you keep a good mood,
or beg and plead?
Suffice to say,
If you swam,
you would not pray
to a golden lamb.
Though half this view
is ugly and cold,
you would have no choice,
Do as your told.
For as a fish
you have no say.
So pray and wish,
eat your fill,
but if its fish,
look for a will."
This poem is mounted on a coffin in MOCA* in LA, next to a coffin, with a dead fish in it. The fish is on a bed of garnish, under which is a velvet cloth and a pillow.
It is half open, Christian funeral style.
