Subject: More....

I wandered away from
the cave where Jax lay
in search of food.
Berries, if such there be,
or roots, or a rabbit, mayhap.
I picked a stone from those
at my feet. As a girl,
I had been one of the best
at hitting the target.
I moved slowly, searching,
I filled my pockets with
late berries, eating as I
went. I spied the remains of
a mountain tuber, and it
joined the berries in my pocket.
Out of the corner of my eye,
I spied movement,
without thinking,
I drew back my arm and threw!
The stone went true
and I picked up a young rabbit.
With this bootie I returned
up the mountainside to where
Jax lay. I gathered twigs and
soon had a fire blazing.
I roasted the rabbit
and ate. When I felt refreshed
I masticated the remaining meat
and forced it into Jax's mouth,
I rubbed his throat forcing him to swallow.
He, too, needed strengthening.
I lay beside him for warmth
and tried to sleep.
The morning sun wakened me,
and as I moved, he moved!
"Jax! you live!"
"There is not a sure consensus
on that!"
"You live. Here, finish this
rabbit. You need to regain your
strength. You lost much blood."
He wasted no more strength
with talking, but, ate the
rabbit and then slept again.
Jax was on the mend!
