Author: Sir Dragzfuth
Subject: Powers of old...

I don't know how long I kneeled there,
but it may as well have been for weeks,
I wouldn't know the difference.
Achingly I stood up, and picked up the sword,
I still held no answer to my questions,
but that could wait.
Right now I will tend my sis and mother's graves.

I walked to the backside of the ruins,
at the forest edge two tombstones lay,
more memories started to surface,
as I kneeled at Alexandra's grave.

***

Swords clashed to one another in magnificent speed and fury, sparks flew as they hit again and again.
Two fighters moved away from one another, then charged to each other again. Shorter one with sleek
figure of a young girl moved with unmatched elegance and swiftness. While her oponent was almost
equally fast and skilled, his defense in next series of attacks came out to slow.
The girl dodged a blow then came up charging with her own, and her oponent had seen his weapon fly
up in the air.
Next, she pointed her own sword at his neck.
"You can stop going easy on me now Magan," she said gingerly as she took off the shield mask revealing
long waves of golden hair.
Magan took off his own mask,
"Just because you got lucky this time it doesn't mean you should get cocky on me Alex."

Alexandra shook her head laughing. "Oh come now, you're not gonna get mad because I beat ya."
"He can still make a good second best swordsman in the land can't he master?" she turned and winked to the man standing at the
side watching the kids practice.

Old swordmaster nodded approvingly, winking back at the girl.
"If he works hard, perhaps he could."
The two laughed merilly and after awhile Magan joined them as well.
"Joke aside though, you both did very well, there is still much to learn nevertheless, but I believe this concludes
the lesson for today. We'll continue this discussion tommorow." Teacher interrupted them.

"Yes, you just reminded me I'm almost late, Belamore promised me I could come see the new horses castle
just received today.", Alexandra replied excited. "I better hurry". Girl dropped the sword off to the teacher, and rushed
out of the practice hall.
"Always in a hurry, isn't she?" swordmaster Gleorn noted.
"I suppose so," said Magan, taking off the chain mail shirt and sitting down on the bench next to where his teacher was standing.
Just then, a blonde head peered over the hall door. "Before I forget, Magan I promise I won't tell the girls
in the village their mighty kninght was beaten by a girl ok? Now stop pouting bro, see you back home. Farewell
Master Gleorn, make sure you tell him he leaves his left open way too often."
Next thing, she was gone.

Magan and Gleorn looked at each other and smiled. "Women", Magan sighed. "Who could understand them. Especially
when they're family."
"Come now boy", teacher said and sat down with Magan, "You're way too young to talk of the fair gender like that."
"I know I know, I was only kidding anyway," Magan grinned.
"So what do you think about Alex? She's making great progress is she not?" he asked the teacher, turning his tone serious.
"Your sister has a special talent there boy," teacher replied thoghtfully.
"I'd dare to say you're both natural swordfighters, and who knows, she may even have the potential to surpass you
one day. So you'd better not start slacking anytime soon." he finished in more lighthearted tone again.

"You speak of exactly what I have noticed, and was also afraid of", boy sighed. "She will want to join knighthood one day
and that worries me. Being a swordplay apprentice is one thing, but when you start risking your life as a warior..."
"You're afraid for her", Gleorn added.

"Yes master. She is, after all just a sweet girl in heart. And my sister above all. I dare not thinking what
a life as a knight could do her, not to mention all the dangers of it...
Just like I don't understand her fascination with this... Belamore... king's stablesman... I've heard ppl saying
he's not right in the head, and he might be dangerous sometimes. But try telling Alex something that's against her decisions..."

Master patted the boy on his shoulder. "I know, I know... she is hard to deny anything. Harder yet to change her mind...
But worry not young Magan. Your sister knows how to take care of herself. So don't bother yourself with these things
in present. As for her future as a knight, I still have to talk about that with your mother. Though I fear that
if Alex made her decision there is little any of us can do to stop her." Gleorn smiled heartwarmingly.
"Thanks for taking the time to talk to me about this master," Magan replied. "I guess I should be on my way now as well,
still have some things to do in the town, buy some stuff for my mom among other things."
"And I suppose one of the things you need to do is meet a couple of dozens of girls that just happen to admire
young fearless wannabe knight with a shiny sword and a black horse?" Gleorn said grinning mischeviously.
"Well you go my boy. I'll clean up here myself today."
"Thank you Master, but are you sure you don't want me to stay and help?" boy said excited.
"No it's ok, run along, I'll be fine", replied Gleorn standing up.
Magan took off rest of his practice armours and slipped into regular clothes, then dashed out.
"Aye Silver", he called to his horse as he came out of the building. Black stallion with a silver grey spot on the head
responded to his master immedieately. Magan jumped on the horse, "Away Silver!", he exclaimed as the horse stood up on his back legs,
then gallopped towards the town like a black lighting.

Gleorn looked through the window silently, watching the boy ride away...

***

I wrestled myself out of the memories,
for what happened later that day was something I wished not to revive.
But images forced themselves up through my mind,
burning remains of a home,
stench of death,
tears of a little boy's sorrow and fright.

As I pondered these thoughts,
a bright spark of light caught my left eye,
sun was already late and loosing it's strength,
so I wondered what else could it be.
I turned and saw my sword that I left at my side,
it shone briliantly,
not reflecting light from the sun,
but a light of it's own,
flashing a color of cold bright blue...

***

Tones of Moonlite Sonata were echoing through the opera hall. A dark silhuete sat at the piano, seemingly
lost in the music completely, carrying the tones of the song with perfect accuracy and technical excellence
literally unmatched all over the world. Flames of the candles set all around the stage and the piano man
suddenly wavered, as the perfection of the flowing sounds was interrupted by a completely wrong tone...

***

I stood up, reaching for the sword,
my hands shaking.
My father told me there could be magic in this weapon of gods,
but this was the first time I ever felt,
or saw anything that made it seem so.
Light faded as I held the blade close to my face,
leaving me wondering if I just had a hallucination,
caused from exhaustion of fighting the poisonus cut I received.
Then the cold blue illumination returned,

***

Stopping the music for a moment, the pianist returned to his song, immersing into the melody once again. This
time the sounds were harder, louder, sharper, yet no less precise. Music filled the entire hall as once again
a clear error crept out in between. One of the candles blew out this time...

***

I could see sword pulsing with light,
and power that surged with each,
pulse I could feel in my hands.
A voice sounded, speaking directly through my own thoughts,
"Greetings, Sir knight,"

***

One more try Baron Victor von Risper gave to playing the song. This time only hitting a few notes and missing
each and every one of them. He stroke down with hands on the piano in frustration. His eyes glowed dark red, as
the stage grew pitch black, all candles blowing out.
"I sense something,
a presence I haven't felt since...
But this cannot be.", he thought to himself.
Glow in his eyes faded to green as he cast out his inner eye to look for the intrusion. The power he felt was
clear, formidably strong, and easy to follow. His inner look flew over the land attracted to the source of the
power like some form of a magnet. And there it was, on a clearing deep in the forest, like a blue glitter it
shone painfully striking his immaterial eyes. He moved closer carefully, until he could stand the light the power
source cast in the netherworld no more. Carefully he stretched one of his limbs towards it, only to have it
burned through as it came a little closer to the light.
Risper snapped out of the trance in a sudden shock.
"such magnificent power, and yet I thought it was no longer on this world. Who could have awoken it?"

***

"Who or what are you?" I found myself ask in thoughts,
"What I am is a long story," sword spoke,
"One we can discuss later,
for now there are other things to attend to.
I have walked with many wariors in my time,
but only those with pure heart could awake me,
and talk with me as you do."
"I... awoke you?"
"You remember your father's words now don't you?
Much of the swords magic is in the carrier of the weapon himself.
But there is more. This land is threatened by evil,
far greater then anything you have faced before.
That is what awoke me as well.
Know however that revealing myself to you,
the source of this evil power will be aware of me as well,
and soon it will know it is you who carry me,
so we must not waste any time."

"What am I to do?" I asked,
"I know not of fighting magic and evil one at that,
my skills are with warior weapons,
skills of a Paladin were not taught to me yet."
"But you have me to assist you", the sword replied.
"I am a sword made by gods,
a weapon with whom you can also slay a god,
or other creatures that are not of this world."

"But I was taught creatures like that are not vulnerable to material weapon attacks?"
Instead of answering,
I noted my vision had changed,
clearly an after effect of something the sword did.
I looked with this new view of the world around me,
seeing things a lot differently...
Light was strangely altered,
although dim revealing more to me then I could see on a clear day,
and the objects around me seemed like transparent,
I looked at a bird fly over my head,
and inside it's body there was a bright strand."

"What you see are the strands of life,
any living creature has them,
those of mortals are easily severed,
for some other creatures however,
you need to have magic skills,
or a weapon like me to show them to thee..."

***

Baron von Risper walked around the stage. Reaching with his inner eye out one more time he found out what he
was wondering about.
"Well now, If it isn't the child prodigy knight, Sir Magan of Dragzfuth, who carries the god sword."
Already dark face darkened further more yet, as he sank into thoughts.
"Wretched family, his sister eluded me already, when I thought it was a sure thing she would be mine. Janora will have to pay yet
for helping the girl's soul escape me when she died...
I've had plans for you young Magan, but apparently those will have to change now. You will know of my true identity...", he sighed
almost sentimentally...
"Well now, the timing is really poor for this Sir knight. I have better things to attend to then pester with a god sword armed
over ambitious knight. Perhaps it is time you learned the truth about how your home was destroyed... Let's see how your sword
will like the purity of your heart once rage envelopes it!"
His baritone laughter echoed as he pondered the thought...
