Arelle looked up at me,
her face still showing
the ravages of childbirth,
and pain.
"You need my help?"
said she.
"Aye, there is more
afoot than a simple
palace intrigue, girl.
And, though the babe
be Belamore's and not
the deceased king,
the one who sets to reign
is in league with
Tancan! And, they
have sent their daemon
beast to ravage here
in the State of Wretched.
I've sent for Jax,
he comes I know,
but---list ye well,
if he rout the dragons,
the rest is up to us.
Are you with me in this
dark adventure, girl?"
Arelle pursed her lips
in thought, I waited.
And, then, "Aye, Janora,
tell me what I must do,
I am with thee."
"A lass with courage!
Now, then, you must
regain your strength,
wait ye here, with your
father and mother, get
strong--I will need you
to stand with me against
the evil that soon invades
this land. I will come to
ye again within a fortnight."
I gave her a sleeping potion,
spoke to her father,
and left. My way is
long and I must get there
before day breaks.
