Subject: The Queen Awakes

In a troubled sleep and shaking from the
cold, I pulled my garb close about me,
I could not feel warmth. The wind whipped
at my clothing and hair as the colors
shimmered beautifully all around me.

Startled from the dream, I shook my head
to clear it...

The memory of what had transpired,
before my collapse, flooded my mind
making me all too aware this was no dream!!
I pressed tightly to the cold stone of the wall.

The whirlwind seemed to be coming from
nowhere, whistling through the small chamber
causing the unpleasant cold.
The shimmering colors emanated from the
creature before me, the candles casting
a reflection from her scales creating the
beautiful array of encompassing colors.

Despite her beauty, this she-devil before
me was a terrifying sight to behold. Sporting
menacing red horns as long as my forearm,
wings like an immense butterfly, with vivid
colorful webbing, and a seven foot tail
donning three glimmering, razor sharp talons.

I pressed closer to the wall, hoping to go
unnoticed.

Twas not to be...!

Startled from my observations, the she-dragon
demanded my assistance in the birth of her son?!!

Then quite suddenly the deadly, taloned tailed
sliced through the air without warning, nearly
taking off my head!! Trembling uncontrollably
I could feel my skin turn cold and my muscles tense as
beads of perspiration trickled down my face, despite
the cold chamber. Too terrified to move, I did not
wipe them away, taking care not to provoke the creature.

Exerting considerable effort, I arose as ordered,
and made my way carefully to what once was my escape
from the wretched kingdom outside!

What was left of the bed before me, now in use
by this massive creature giving birth, "if I make
it out, these chambers will be sealed forever"
I thought as I came closer to the distraught
lady dragon.

Observing, I felt a bit of compassion for the creature,
clearly distressed from the throes of child bearing.

Unaware of what to do I stoodby, trembling
terribly, wondering if I would ever see the
light of morn'.

Quite suddenly, as if with no effort at all
there was a small boy child before me, covered
with fluids from the birthing. Perfect in every
way, 10 fingers, 10 toes, a human baby!!
Instinctively I reached for the child and
began cleansing his small innocent body as he
let out a faint cry.

I felt the large green eyes upon me and
tried to maintain my composure. Feeling that
as long as I held this child, I would not be
harmed.

Wrapping the child in linen, I cradled him closely,
Surprised at my feelings of tenderness toward
the small child in my arms.

I awaited further instructions, but none came.
Sensing that I was still being watched, I looked
up with a question in my eyes?

She seemed to understand and spoke, "you are chosen
guardian of this child and will care for him as
your own, until such time he comes of age", she
rasped mournfully.

My eyes widened in surprise and I could not
believe what I was hearing. I have no knowledge
of immortal beings!!

"This one is not of my world, how shall I know
if I care for him properly?" I questioned.

"He is half mortal and is to be cared for like
any other human", she answered shortly.

I stood pondering the events of the day and
shook my head once more hoping to awaken.
Alas *sigh* I did not!
