Author: Tri-arcanoth
Subject: Tri-arcanoth's bargain...

Night had fallen over the trees in the forest.
Sounds of creatures of the night echoed through the air, as the mighy dragon
Tri-arcanoth sought a suitable spot to weather the night without the risk
of falling an easy prey to humans that pestered this land.
A stroke of luck in what seemed an already bad day to him, he discoverd a cave at the
foot of the hill, just wide enough to get most of his bulk inside.
With a sigh, the dragon put his heads down looking for some much needed rest after
the long days of travel...

With a sudden jerk, the beast awoke in pitch dark dead of the night. An eerie silence filled
the air, like everything had gotten into a standstill. Not even a cricket made a sound
as one of Tri-arcanoth's heads uneasily looked into darkness around him.
His eyes spotted a movement of sorts, or at least he thought so.
Releasing some smoke, he spoke, "If you were hoping to catch me asleep, you already failed...
who or whatever you are..."
His words cut into the dead silence but fell short of any effect.
Cold wind blew still without making a sound...
But dragon's heart felt a chill much worse then that. For the first time in his agelong existance,
Tri-arcanoth sensed fear, not even knowing the reason why. Never before he sensed anything like that,
no fight with another beast, a dragonslayer, army... even a wizard had ever made him sense this.
Two red eyes emerged from the darkness in front of him, and a voice spoke. Words sounding
like snow falling reached into his mind...

"Greetings mighty Tri-arcanoth, I see stories of thine majestic appearance were very true..."

"What... who are you?" Tri-arcanoth replied.
"One step at a time, dragon. I've come here to offer you a deal, not talk of my identity.
You seek two humans, do you not? One who is called Sir Dragzfuth you especially want, yet
you fear him at the same time."

A silent rumble escaped dragon's jaws. "I know not of fear, but yes the name of the human
you mentioned is the one I am looking for."

Laughter feeling like icecicle's in Tri-arcanoth mind echoed. "Did you not feel fear just
as I approached you, oh mighty one? But I disgress, 'tis not of importance. What I offer
is the knights life, I can make sure he won't be a threat to thee."

"At what price?" Dragon said.

"Not much. Favour for a favour." voice replied adding some more chill into the laughs that followed.
"There is a woman, known as Janora the Hag that has something I seek. But in order for me
to obtain it she must die first. You are to kill her, and I shall give you Sir Dragzfuth."

Tri-arcanoth's head shook. "How am I to trust thee to keep thine word?"

Cold wind got stronger, and words echoing in his head suddenly grew stronger.
"DO NOT DARE TO DOUBT ME, DRAGON! I KNOW YOU CAN FEEL 'TIS NOT A GOOD THING TO PROVOKE
ME!" shaken by the words, Tri-arcanoth suddenly saw himself being a baby dragon again,
little and helpless, facing a demonic image with flairy red glowing eyes of enourmous dimensions.
"I SAID I SHALL KEEP MY END OF THE BARGAIN. YOU WILL ACCEPT THAT AS TRUST ENOUGH!"

Dragon blinked his eyes, finding himself back to full size again...
Moments of silence later he spoke, "Ok, I shall do what you propose. Tell me how to find
this Janora, and I shall dispose of her. But I suggest you to keep your end, or else you
will regret ever making a deal with a dragon." releasing some fire to emphasize his words,
and perhaps illuminate the stranger.
Fire only reached a certain distance from the eyes in the air though, and then just vanished.
"Agreed, you shall learn all you need to know in a dream I will send to you..." the voice
spoke for the last time.
Cold wind ceased as the red glowing pair of eyes dissapeared, and forest sounds started
to fill the night again...

The witch Keecadoran walked away from the cave dragon slept in, laughing merrily inside.
"Trust an old dragon to be afraid of an old witch."
a smile crept upon her face,
"This time Janora, you will get what is coming to thee for certain."
