Hello Katie!
Welcome!
You've found the right place if you love Steve!
I absolutely love Frontiers and Beyond. Seeing all the behind the scenes stuff is really interesting to me. You never realize how much work goes into setting up a concert.. amazing.
Yes, I agree with you about his never being part of the band. When I first heard him say that in BTM, I immediately understood what he was saying. My belief is that he meant personally, not necessarily work wise. Whether he made that more clear, and it was cut, or he didn't I don't know. Musically I think they were a team. They worked off of each other very well, from what I can see. But my feeling is, that on a friend basis, there were personality clashes, and you've have to be a rock not to realize that he was resented and not wanted. Being in that postition myself I can just see the scenario's.. Steve wants some time off from touring, Steve Smith and Ross won't speak up, Neal and Jon don't want to stop, so it's Steve constantly speaking up and looking like the bad guy. The weird thing is I've watched other BTM's and the same thing happens over and over, the band members want time off, they take it. I've read articles where singers are called perfectionists and control freaks and are praised for it. Yet, Steve is some how the bad guy for doing this. I don't get it. Look at what happend to Mariah, isn't everyone's health worth more than that? The resentment of Steve is just inexplicable.
For some reason some fans and apparently band members felt he owed them a lot more. He never signed anything stating he would tour the rest of his life or that he'd never get sick, etc.. what exactly do they think he did to disappoint or let them down? Take care of himself? If you don't take care of yourself, who will?
Sorry, got off on a rant there!
Well, welcome, and we look forward to hearing from you more in the future!
Noel (the long winded one!)
