I'm 19, dancing since i was 2, pointe for the past 5 years. Step on the box, yes. Slam it in the door? NO! Slam the arch, where YOUR arch is, in the door. You want to soften the box, not split it. Especially since you are new in pointe, you need the strength of the shoe, to increase the strength of your feet! My advice is to break them in naturally, by wearing them. When I started pointe, my teacher wouldn't allow us to wear our shoes outside of class. It worked really well, and now it's really easy for me to break my shoes in just by dancing, no little tricks.
