That's dangerous ground to talk about as there are obviously different 'frames of reference' on each side. What you may call spirit that is called 'bad attitude' by others because of an unwillingness to take on board criticisms, or to be able to objectively look at yourself and your behaviour. If there's a problem about your behaviour that a boss teacher comes to you with, ideally you should be able to come to an understanding. However in my experience the people with a 'bad attitude' are the ones that always say, in some shape or form, "f*** off" to such comments and are unwilling to listen to any criticisms or requests. They normally react in that way because they are just so paranoid that they are being told to unquestioningly conform, when that is often not the case, unless they have a very extreme boss/teacher who is probably as bad as they are themselves, just in the opposite direction.

Of course you can have your way without having to be labelled as a BA case if you use subtley instead of blunt confrontations. i.e. be clever enough to work on said superiors as to why they were wrong to make the suggestion they did, and then often the boss/teacher has bowed to your stance without even realising it (this works, and is why I got my school headmaster to sommen me to his office so he could appologise to me when I was wrongly accused of cheating in a mock exam!). However that only really works if you are indeed are in the right and your behaviour is not causing any actual problems. If your behaviour is causing actual problems, then you are not in the right and need to think about what you need to change and why.

Having had some experience of this from both sides, that's the fairest point of view, for my money.

Dave
