Hi Sheila. I have an 11 year old son that has had a cochlear implant since he was 3 years old. He has worn the sound processor on and off over the last 8 years but he too is hyper-sensitive to sound & we have come to the conlusion that he enjoys his peaceful world. I think had we used ABA therapy from the beginning with him we would have had a lot more success but he wasn't diagnosed as Autistic until he was well over 4. Combine it with a good ABA program that makes it highly reinforcing for him to wear it & I bet it will work out. Good luck!
