Turning Purple

It was your purple cake, that
added a certain flavor
to the hours of reminiscent
friends and family,their soft words
meant to cheer me.

I saw the corpse in your kitchen,
the purple stain running from carcass to oven,
and as I gagged on the bulbous pieces, I wanted to tell you
how wrong I was, that afterall
it was never Iggie.
