The clubs that are part of the button award association provide their members with award buttons for catching trophy size fish and game. The fish or game must be weighed on a certified scale and the weighing or measuring must be witnessed. In addition the largest fish or game of a species qualifies for the overall trophy among the member clubs. The overall trophies are awarded at the annual awards banquet and annual meeting, which is held in February. It provides friendly competition among the members and also encourages diversity in fishing and hunting in order to receive button awards.
