I called everyone I know and could'nt get out heres the word from Stan (don't read this unless your emotionally up to it.

those who know are calling this
weekend one of the greatest in the history of local marlin fishing. In a season when seeing 5 feeding marlin in a day was rare, most of us were seeing that many every 10 minutes. Much more will be said about this weekend by a lot of people, but suffice it to say that if you weren't there you'd never believe me if I told you how many fish there
were, anyway. The 267 bite that developed last Wednesday continued into the weekend, and was accompanied by magnificent weather. The combination meant that even the blind could find feeders - but there were so many, it didn't matter! The Saturday action was localized on the 267 and inward towards Dana Point. I can't even begin to imagine
how many fish were released on Saturday, but the numbers could have been a lot bigger. Unfortunately, bait was difficult to find, especially in the southern harbors, and those who had mackeral found that an amazing number of feeders wouldn't eat. Far too many fish were taken for me to mention here - even if I could keep up with them! Email me or file a trip report and I'll make sure you get your props. Kudos to John and Jeanie Riley, who each released a marlin Saturday on Ron Johnson's SHOWDOWN. Thumbs up also to Ben Secrest, who released four fish while slow trolling. How wide open was it Saturday? Even I released one on HOOKER - yep, the curse is over. Sunday found the fleet more spread out, with four separate fleets forming as each group tried to outdo the other. Most boats were 5 to 7 miles south of Dana or off the nuke plant, with a smaller group north of that off of Laguna Canyon. However, the most productive boat was part of a small fleet off of Oceanside, where REEL CONTENDER released 6 (yes, six) marlin on Sunday and had a shot at several more. KEN DAN released a pair, and several other boats were successful as well. It was just
amazing to be a part of. The warm water that predicated this bite has continued north and is flaring out across the 14 Mile Bank and towards Catalina, so it should be interesting to see what happens next. We've had seasons where this leads to a patch of warm water being cutoff by
the colder ocean. When that happens, the marlin stick around through Thanksgiving - here's hoping!

So there you have it, I'm telling you I almost cried.

Tight lines Jim
