Hi Jim I think that a zero limit is, and would be an over reaction. Especially for Rec anglers. I wouldn't mind one put in place on the commercials. Our Local Mako's are not truly local but part of a vast pacific population, as such there are all kinds of factors that control how many sharks show up in local waters each year. I don't think there is any doubt that the unusual water temps of the last few years have influenced fish counts of all kinds. That said I do think conservation is a big issue here. I'm still in favor of a 6o inch size limit on local Mako's. Since our area is a nursery we need to protect the pups. The majority of sharks caught here are under sixty inches, 85% according to DFG biologists. These small fish should be released. As to the adults: well we have few adult Mako's here. I'd say that this is a good thing. Most large preditors avoid areas frequented by their young. This protects the small sharks. I'm not sure what the numbers are but I think less than ten adult Mako's have been taken this year, and this is good year. Contrast this to the several hundred small Mako's taken and you can see my point. In this location So Cal. we really need ome legislation to protect the young Sharks.

Tight lines Jim
