Date Posted: 938380290PDT In reply to: Bad Dog 's message, "Re: Blue Shark Article in Honolulu Star-Bulletin" on 938134736PDT Bad Dog has obviously cut and pasted the BS that the Council is spreading. 98% may be close to what are dead when finned, but only after they're cut, beaten or shot as 86% are alive when brought to the boat. The Council made up the fact that the State would loose millions, they have no biologiccal assesment to be sure that blue shark stocks are healthy and blue sharks have been over fished in other fisheries so why not here. The CPUE of sharks droped by 50% in just two years, which to many is a major indicator that the fishery may be an accident waiting to happen. It's unfortunate that Jim Cook, his five longliners who fin sharks, and the Council don't listen to NOAA, the NMFS , the Elasmobranch Society and the millions of people who say to stop finning. It funny how people call this a fishery when they waste 99% of the fish. This is a waste issue........period. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
