Date Posted: 939863278PDT In reply to: Jim Morris 's message, "Would the Tiger have Attacked the Swimmer?!" on 939483475PDT Hiya!, First off, I am glad no one had gotten hurt. Was there in action taken in hunting down this tiger...even know it didn't harm anyone? I hope not. We must remember that they were in the sharks element. The shark was doing what was natural for it. This sounded like a agressive animal. Tigers are unpredictable. I recently had the chance to speak with our local elasmobranch ecologist. He told me that he tells all his divers to keep an eye out when tigers are around. Never try to approach them. If any signs of aggression, leave the water. He also mentioned that they usually make a invesigation pass before doing anything...but all the same...extreme caution. Jim Morris...remind me to send you some info on this ecologist...might be able to swing a tiger trip for the POD testing ;-) Anyhow, these sharks are usually in deep waters during the daylight hours and only come to the shallows to feed at night...or unless extremely hungry. I have seen this twice...once with a 9' and again with a 10'...fairly small specimens. Now a tiger shark of 15' is very possible...it the fishery was left alone. That is not the case and tigers of this size is very rare...but still possible. We had a 14' the summer before last up to the pier...and this is a estimation. My question is...How come all these other boats had their radios turned off? I think that is stupid. FISH ON!!, -BB- [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
