Been too busy to hoop lately, missed it though
When Capt. Sport gave me a call and offered me an all expenses paid trip ( cost maybe 20 bucks) it took very little arm twisting to get me to go. Jim's new to hooping so he hoped to learn from the expert (yeah right
) Good guy though, I was glad to get the chance to fish with him again.
When I got to the boat it had shrunk...LOL Actually Jim's 21 Bayrunner had myseriously transformed itself in Blue's 18 bayrunner.
I guess they've been hooping and Jim got it on the loan. Too busy altering his to take it out.
Good enough for me though. 18's Bigger then my skiff for sure. I just want to do some welding on it
Hit MDR ramp about 7:00 rigged some new 36 inch nets and took off.
While setting the first set another skiff came in. Turned out it was Josh and the Team Striper crowd. Josh is pretty new to hooping as well (I took him his first trip a few weeks back) so we decided to kind of buddy boat and compare notes.
Outstanding hooping numbers wise. Every net had bugs all night. Though six to one shorts the legals came so steady that both boats had limits by early morning.
We had some just legals a number of good bugs and some Big Bull Bug hawgs, it was fun to see Jim get so excited when we pulled up the bigger units. I must of heard: "Thats the biggest bug I've ever seen" half a dozen times. He was actauly afraid of the big one. Kept telling me to put it away as it followed him around the skiffs floor
Met at the ramp and compared notes at the end of the day. I forgot the cam but Josh should post some pics.
I let Jim take the big ones so no weigh in for the big dawgs.
All the guys were saying it was their best trip ever. Which made me feel pretty good. What Can I say I've had some pretty good trips this year solo, but for hooping with a group it was outstanding. My best trip fishing with a partner.
One note: We ran into another boat with local guys pretty upset at Internet guys over running the spots. On one level I understand. It's definately a drag to get in a good hoop one night and return the next to find twenty boats on the same spot.
I've thought about this a bunch and I think I'm going back to my policy of not going into too much detail location wise. Lots of bugs out there everybody doesn't need to be hooping the same rockpile.
Tight lines Jim
