Subject: Grateful

I just looked outside my hotel window and noticed a full moon and it made me feel exceedingly grateful. Since I've lived in a place where clouds so often obscure the sky, I've developed a real penchant for all things cosmic. I guess what I like most about the night sky is that I can imagine that when I look up, half of the people on the planet and I can be doing the same thing.

This has been a very full week. From the high granite mountains of Yosemite and cool morning meadows to the heat of the Central Valley and the cool mists of the ocean. From the opulence of Hearst's Castle to the migrant workers chopping lettuce in the noonday sun... they all filled me. The wrong turn that led me to a Japanese School in Watsonville told the story of immigrants coming from a distant place looking for all the same things my own ancestors were seeking only to be incarcerated by their own government "for their own protection" it filled me.

My heart is truly full and I know from experience that I must keep the really important things very personal and close to my heart for a time before I share or if I ever share. I need to sit with those things that brought me to tears and dig deep to find out what it was about them that touched me. I hope you'll see it, not as withholding information from you, but, as a way of taking a very special experience inside and honoring it.

I usually prefer traveling alone. It gives me time to process, and yes, to notice the things that would pass me by because I would be too busy otherwise, but BC you offered me a wonderful perspective and a shared experience. Thank you.

Stewart, thank you so much for being such a gracious and authentic person. Thank you too for understanding that BC and I were accomplishing something greater than the adventure itself and acknowledging that adventures are indeed, a very important necessity of life.

I loved your part of the state. The easy proximity to the ocean and the variety of environments was wonderful. But best of all, I loved the feel of the sun on my back. On my last trip to California, we were so busy I didn't take the time to know it was even there. This journey was a back road journey and I need to remember that those are often the most fruitful.... the road less traveled.

Sometimes it is important to weigh the impractical against the practical and just go for it. Take a dream and make it real. That way you know you can. I waited too long for some of my dreams and lost the opportunity. Next time it'll be a little easier to trust in the possibility.

The feeling is mutual. You are a real blessing . I'm so pleased that I had the opportunity to meet you person to person. I really enjoyed our late night talks, especially during the "clips." Now, every time I see them, I'll think of you, too.

(Big, big smile. Okay, it's more of a smirk, but you know what I mean!)
