Subject: Packages from CA!

Well, they finally arrived ...
the two packages I mailed myself before leaving Santa Barbara! :)

On the way to CA, I only used one piece of carry-on luggage 'cause I knew I'd be changing planes several times before reaching my final destination.
On top of that, I didn't want my belongings to end up in an entirely different location from myself ...
kinda like what happened to Eoghann ...
getting separated from Joanna on his way to Austrailia!

So, as with most vacations, I ended up with more things to carry home than I had room in my luggage.
I myself didn't purchase any souvenirs ...
but, somehow ended up with several items which were given to me.
The only thing I collected personally were from the beaches at San Simeon, Moonstone and Morro Bay.

When I went to Tybee Island in GA earlier this year (during Spring break) I brought home some sand and seashells which I now have in a wine glass - sitting on the desk in my room. They actually look quite nice, and it's my own little part of the Atlantic coast!
I love the ocean!
The movement and sound of the waves makes me think I am listening to the earth at it breathes!
I wrote my initials in the sand at Tybee Island,GA ...
and, yes...
I wrote the initials - "SFM" - on the beach at Tybee Island also ! :)
'cause it was my goal to travel from coast to coast this year ...
ending up in CA, and eventually meeting Stewart! :)

Well, when I arrived in San Simeon, I did the same thing! :)
I "left my mark" on CA (so to speak)!
I wrote "BC 2010" on the Pacific Coast, and watched the waves carry "me" away with each "breath"!
I stayed on the beach the first night and watched the sunset!
It was so beautiful!

As I listened to the waves, you could hear the water trickling across the small pebbles and stones on the beach as the waves rolled in and then back out again!
Then, I spent the whole next morning collecting stones from the beach ...
all shapes and sizes ...
some small, and some NOT so small! :)
All different colors, with many having variegated patterns of several colors!
I saw very few seashells however, but I collected a some of them as well!

And, when LauraG and I were in Morro Bay, I found two small claws of a crab ...
and, a feather from a seagull!

Now, I'd like to make a terrarium!
or, perhaps an aquarium using the things I've collected from both of my journeys to the east and west coasts! :)

When I mailed the packages home from the FedEx center next to the Santa Barbara airport ...
one of the clerks said, "What in the world have you got in here?"
"Some rocks I collected!"
"Where are you from?!"
"TN!"
She just smiled, 'cause I guess she knew how we tourists can be?! "_

Thanks for listening!
with love from, BC :)

My dad loves rocks. On one vacation to Michigan's UP he had so many rocks they had to get rid of things they brought up like water etc. I mean....who needs bottled water when there is a great rock to bring home, right?

When they came to visit last March I took them to Franklin, TN. Many of you remember our trip to the waterfalls. Many of which are seend from the roadside.

On one such roadside we saw a HUGE rock quarry. My normally quiet mom asked me to stop and snap a funny picture. What ensued was a hilarious reenactment of their age old argument.
"Please Barb, it's just one more rock."
"NO DAVE!!"

Photobucket

Incidentally-----that rock would have NEVER fit on the plane!!

Cathy, your Dad and I would get along well then, because I'm a big fan of rocks as well. I even managed to bring a piece of basalt back from Mornington Peninsula, Australia, where it's like heaven for a geology nut like myself.

As an undergrad, I took this awesome grad level course in invertebrate paleontology, and for our field project, we traveled to this former quarry just north of Alpena on 23. It's located on the same road leading to a boat landing and there is an abundance of Devonian fossils which your Dad would love. Things like corals, trilobites, spiriferids.... I went back to get more trilobites, but as I've mentioned previously, I seem to always find the pigidium, or rear end of the trilobite. That's not cool! Is someone trying to send me a message?

Love ya!
Joanna

Oh, I will be regrettably sending Eoghann to you this weekend. I find it so difficult to part with the little fella! He's managed to get my luggage delayed both traveling to and returning from Australia. That cheeky rodent! And he has a pet golden retriever acquired from Australia named Oz. They caused a lot of mischief together, and Oz will be accompanying Eoghann. They are best of friends now...

How cool that Eoghann now has a traveling companion ...
named "Oz" ?! :)
Double the fun ...
and, possibly double the trouble for whomever is their adoptive parent at the time ?! :)
I love it!
