Subject: Hot, hot, hot! And I am NOT talking about SFM! LOL!

Another day with the heat index around 110 degrees. We had another energy curtailment at work today. Yesterday they turned the air off at 2 PM; we work until 3:30. Today, they turned it off at 1 PM! It got hot in the main library which has huge windows and juts out from the building. Even with the blinds closed it got really warm. But I was in the library's inner office/workroom which retained the coolness a little longer. I shut the doors and put a fan on me. I was okay and but it was just starting to get warm when I left. Schools in Johnson County are on a different utility company so they didn't have to shut down but my school is across the street on the rural Miami Co. side! We, of course, don't turn off the air when kids are at school. We are on a skeleton crew right now. School starts in 2 weeks.

Oh my, it sounds miserable! I sure wish we could divvy things up a bit. I live on the coast of Washington and we've had but a handful of days that have been above 70º. Luckily, I've been able to get away, but last week I had lunch with friends in Seattle where it was close to 90º and by the time I was off I-5 and headed to the coast, I looked up and my temp outside was 56º. I'm totally tired of gray, gray, gray!

When I was in school ...
"way back when" ...
the first day was always after Labor Day!
And, I think we were always out of school by the first week of June!

We started school Monday of this week!
The schedule we have now is good in the fact we are out of school the last week in May.
But, it's kinda difficult for the kids riding the bus - due to the heat - for the first 2 or 3 weeks of school.

I hope things cool down for ya a bit Deb!

Yeah, the air broke at Tim's work, too. It has been miserably hot here in Atlanta. I would take Mexico hot over what we have here. MUGGY!

Our heat index was at 108 today. I am so glad our air was working at school.

It actually cooled down to the mid 90s to upper 80s this evening. There are a few storms a little ways away and we are getting a slight cool down because of it. The school did NOT turn off my air at work today! Whoopee! Therefore, we must have been under only a heat advisory and not an excessive heat advisory.

I want to thank you all for sending a little warmth my way. It reached 78 today! Of course, the fog crept up the Chehalis at sunset and its not 58º But it was nice not to freeze for a change.

Laura....78 degrees?! So jealous right now. My sunglasses steamed up this morning when I got in my car and headed to school around 8:45.

Today in Iowa we finally have a break from the humidity and heat and actually there is a nice breeze coming in. We finally got in window air conditioners in the elementary 2 years ago- the MS and HS are air conditioned so our little guys always had to suffer- or we were told to go find a part of the building that was air conditioned and not occupied at the time to try to teach. Nothing like trying to get routines in while bopping around a building. I hope it isn't too bad when school starts in 2 weeks. I feel sorry for you guys where it is so hot. I've been in Atlanta in the summer and it is hot and humid!!! We've thought about taking the kids sometime, but I think fall would be best :) Stay cool!

We always vacation in late November. There is a really neat Scottish festival here around that time and the mountains are filled will color and APPLES!
