As I recall my history, the U.S. tried something similar back in the 1960s with Fidel Castro. As you well know, that worked out great, as democracy was restored to Cuba, U.S. business got some great sugar cane deals, and the United States has never had to worry about weapons of mass destruction (particularly nuclear weapons) from Cuba.
