Subject: G1 DVD - volume one - my thoughts

It was with great excitement that I saw the G1 DVD fall through my letterbox (and a great deal of disappointment too, since I was on my way out to work at the time and couldn't have a look at it). Having watched it, I regret to say that the best thing I can say about it is.....it's alright. Nothing special.

First off - the episodes are good ones. The ones on the disk are:

1) Fire on the mountain
2) War of the Dinobots
3) The Ultimate Doom, parts I, II and III

All in all good episodes, pretty standard G1 fare when all is said and done.

Secondly, the menus are very nice. They look nothing like the ones used for either TFTM or BW on DVD, but nice anyway. A good touch is that the menus "transform" as you move from one screen to the next.

Thirdly, NO extras whatsoever. This is what brings it down from excellent to "alright". Nothing. Nada. Zip. Bugger all. Surely someone could have been interviewed? Simon Furman? Peter Cullen? A profile of Optimus Prime and Megatron could surely have been produced (like the BW DVD)? I thought the edge DVDs had over VHS was the fact that they could be loaded with extra stuff!

I can only hope these things improve with time.........if they don't it will be a massive missed opportunity to make a truly excellent product.
